Valentino Rossi clinched a hard-earned runner-up finish at Phillip Island but the Yamaha MotoGP rider says there is still much work to be done this weekend at Sepang.

Rossi made his return from a broken leg at Aragon and finished fifth against the odds. He was then caught out in the wet at Motegi, but the Italian was back on the podium for the first time since Silverstone as he overcame a fierce battle to secure the runner-up spot in Australia.

“We need to stay modest after the race in Australia. We have worked well and we have taken another step forward, I’m happy about this, but we still have a lot to do. Going straight to Malaysia is important,” Rossi said.

“I don’t expect anything, but we will work hard to make it another nice race. It’s a track that I like a lot and I hope for good weather, so we’ll be able to work in the best way possible.

“I’m physically okay, in the next few days I’ll rest and next Friday I’ll be ready for another weekend.”
