Marquez: Less pressure after Assen win

Marc Marquez feels he arrives at the German MotoGP round with less pressure to defend his perfect record at Sachsenring thanks to a confident-boosting victory at Assen last time out.

Marquez triumphed in a thrilling race filled with overtakes and action to secure victory at the Dutch circuit and extend his MotoGP world championship lead to 41 points over Valentino Rossi.

The Repsol Honda feels a win at a circuit which hasn’t favoured Honda in recent years like Assen means he’s in a better position to maintain his winning run at Sachsenring.

Marquez has taken pole position and the race win in every MotoGP premier class race he’s contested while his unbeaten record stretches back to 2010 at the German circuit.

“Everybody is speaking about eight victories-in-a-row over the last eight years but after the Assen race I feel less pressure,” Marquez said. “I feel less pressure because in Holland, I was just a little bit worried because at that circuit we always struggle a little bit, but this year was different and we were very competitive from the beginning.

“We increased our advantage in the championship and we arrive here in a good way from a test in Brno that was pretty good.

“We’ll see during the whole weekend, how it works, the tyres, all these things and then the target is of course to win on Sunday.”

Marquez says he will prioritise the MotoGP world championship picture over taking risks to maintain his Sachsenring record.

“We need to think and we need to manage that if for some reason it is impossible, like last year Folger was very, very fast, if for some reason it is not possible [to win] it is time to take points and go to the summer break in a good way,” he said.
