Moto2 title contender Jorge Martin will return to grand prix action in Catalunya this weekend after missing both Misano rounds following a positive Covid test.

The Red Bull KTM Ajo rider has slipped from joint second in the standings to fifth during his absence, while the gap to title leader Luca Marini has grown from 8 to 46 points.

With seven rounds to go it's still possible for Martin to snatch the Moto2 crown before his to-be-confirmed move to MotoGP with Pramac Ducati next season, but the Spaniard knows he'll need to add to his Red Bull Ring victory.

“I'm very happy to be back again, as it was a few tough weeks for me. I am eager to get back on the bike; having to watch the races from home was difficult," Martin said.

"Now our objective will be different; we have to try to win as many races as possible. When we have completed a few grands prix, we'll see where we really are - and if we have a chance to fight for the title.

"I like the track at Barcelona. I am competitive there and I have obtained good results there in the past. I can't wait for tomorrow, to start working and to do my best."

Enea Bastianini, Marco Bezzecchi and Sam Lowes currently seperate Marini and Martin in the world championship standings.
