Martin Truex Jr. has been docked 25 driver points because the right rear quarter panel of his car was found to be too high in post-race inspection after Saturday night's Sprint Cup race at Chicagoland Speedway, NASCAR announced Tuesday.

Teresa Earnhardt, owner of Truex's #1 Earnhardt Ganassi Racing Chevrolet, was also penalised 25 owner points.

Crew chief Kevin Manion was fined $25,000 and placed on NASCAR probation until December 31, 2009.

Despite the penalty, Truex - who will leave the team at the end of the year to join Michael Waltrip Racing - remains 24th in the driver standings.

"We completely understand NASCAR's position on the rule violation and will not appeal the penalty imposed," Manion said. "In addition, we are taking steps internally to ensure this will not happen in the future."
