Tony Stewart turned the tables on Ryan Newman at the Lowe's Motor Speedway on Saturday night as he reversed the current trend of Newman victories by passing the #12 ALLTEL Dodge in the closing stages of the race to grab the win.

Stewart won the 334-lap UAW-GM Quality 500 after pitting for fresh tyres and fuel with 40 laps to go and then racing his way past Newman with less than five laps remaining.

Jimmie Johnson, who had the dominant car in the early stages of the evening, finished third ahead of veteran Bill Elliott in fourth and Jeff Gordon in fifth.

In the points chase Matt Kenseth overcame an early problem with his power steering to bring the #17 DeWalt Ford home in eighth place, crucially ahead of both Dale Earnhardt Jr (9th) and Kevin Harvick (10th).
