Carolina Dodge Dealers 400 race winner Jimmie Johnson was in a state of shock after crossing the line ahead of the field at Darlington on Sunday, having achieved a lifetime ambition.

The #48 Lowe's Chevrolet driver had longed to win at the tricky circuit, and finally claimed his cherished prize when a late-race caution allowed his Rick Hendrick-fielded team to beat Bobby Labonte off pit-road.

"I can't believe I've won Darlington - this is unbelievable," he beamed after the race, "It has always been a goal of mine to win at Darlington. We've always had a great car and been very close, but to do it today with the great car that we had is awesome.

"We had great teamwork, and we had a great car on short runs. The pit-stops made the difference and got us the lead and got us the win. Bobby had the better car, but I knew I had better air being in the lead, and I knew I just had to protect it.

"I knew he was coming but, luckily, it was a short run and we were able to bring this Lowe's Monte Carlo to Victory Lane. This is an awesome day. I can't believe it. This is the highlight of my career so far."
