The MBV/MB2 Motorsports stable got their 2005 NASCAR Nextel Cup pre-season testing campaign off to the best possible start as drivers Scott Riggs and Joe Nemechek led both Tuesday sessions at the Daytona International Speedway to finish the day 1-2 on the speed charts.

Riggs, who is entering his sophomore season with the #10 MBV Motorsport Valvoline Chevrolet, recorded a top speed of 185.109mph during the morning session, good enough to lead the other 26 teams participating in the second of a two-stage test.

Although Riggs' top lap is slower than some of the speeds turned in week one, it was still quick enough to remain top for the day.

Nemechek wound his MB2 Motorsports #01 U.S. Army Chevrolet up to a best speed of 184.816mph in the morning session to take second place on the timesheets overall on a day where the MBV/MB2 stable swept the top two positions in both practice sessions. Nemechek led the P.M. session from Riggs with a top speed of 184.661mph.

Jeff Green revelled with his new Dodge Charger and Ray Evernham built engine as he set third fastest speed of the day with a lap of 184.422mph for Petty Enterprises.

Jimmie Johnson and Mark Martin rounded out the top five.
