Callum Ilott was an early-season rival of Lando Norris in F3 last year, only for each driver’s form to divert. After three years in the category, Ilott could not leave as champion, forcing him into a sidestep into GP3 for 2018.

Ilott’s talent is undeniable, though. He was excellent at Macau, winning the qualifying race and battling at the front in the grand prix itself early on, with his displays being enough to warrant a call-up from Ferrari for its young driver academy.

Ilott needs to make a splash in GP3 this year and take the championship by the throat - but has every capability of doing so. A convincing title win - what would be the first of his single-seater career - would be a fine way for one of the brightest young talents in British motorsport to continue his climb.
