Artem Markelov has signed with the Toyota-backed Team LeMans in the Japanese Super Formula series for 2019.

Markelov was open about his plans to call time on his time in Formula 2 at the end of 2018, having spent two years in the series and three in its predecessor, GP2.

The Russian was briefly linked with a Williams Formula 1 seat for 2019, but was named on Thursday as part of Team LeMans' line-up for the upcoming Super Formula campaign.

He will partner Kazuya Oshima, and become the first Russian driver to race in the series.
