Andrew Hockridge is excited about the forthcoming MSA British Rally Championship which begins in Llangollen this weekend as the new season sees both a new sponsor and a new car for the man who impressed on his way to second in the Citroen C2R2cup in 2008.

Whilst Hockridge began the 2008 season as a relative unknown, the Phweli-based businessman ended the season with a mighty impressive tally of six podiums from the seven round series. Such was the impact that his performance has had that he has attracted sponsorship from Signature Cheese (the cheese to please) and has also upgraded to a brand new Geoff Jones Motorsport prepared Citroen C2R2 Max for the 2009 season.

The new car, which was launched during the International Food and Drinks Exhibition at Excel in London recently, will be immediately recognisable by its distinctive two tone colour scheme. And with the opening round of the new season taking place in his home county, Wales, Hockridge and co-driver Rich Mills will also be supporting the Severn Hospice during the rally as they aim to raise money and awareness for this worthwhile charity.

"I am really looking forward to the new season," he said. "I enjoyed all of the rallies last year and there was never any question about us returning. We're very pleased to welcome Signature Cheese on board and together we look forward to establishing one of the best cheese brands in the country.

"Rich and I will also be supporting the Severn Hospice during the Bulldog International Rally of Wales this weekend. It is a very deserving charity and covers a massive range of both Shropshire and Wales, and we hope that all of the competitors and spectators will help by donating just ?1 each into one of the collecting boxes that we aim to have at selected points on the route."

The Bulldog International Rally of Wales is based in Llangollen, with a central service area in Bala. Featuring some of the classic Mid Wales stages such as Dyfnant, Dyfi and Penllyn this brand new event to the British Rally Championship calendar is the perfect way to begin the new season.
