Craig Breen clinched the victory in the Kick Energy Fiesta SportTrophy on the Manx International Rally last weekend, the fifth round in the UK series.

Breen ruled from the off and set five fastest stage times during the day, controlling his pace late on to ensure he took the maximum points haul In the end he finished almost three minutes up on his closest rival and the result means he now takes the lead in the UK series, with 110 points on the board.

Speaking at the finish, Breen was happy with the result, although he fared less well on day two - which didn't count as part of the FST - and running under the 'BRC Challenge' he rolled out and into retirement.

"I am very happy and pleased with how the results eventually planned out, I really enjoyed the stages and we worked hard in the shakedown to get the car properly set up," Breen reflected.

"Unfortunately after the FST event I tried to chase the faster cars but it didn't go to plan.

"However we achieved what we wanted to do on the event and I am now really looking forward to the Ulster Rally."

Meanwhile Ross Forde took second in the FST and in the process enjoyed his best weekend of the year so far, while Matt Edwards completed the podium, 23.7 seconds further back. It was an impressive run from Edwards, who was making his debut on the 'black stuff'.

Kris Hall was next up and fourth, despite suffering two rolls - one before the event in the shakedown and the other on the very first stage when he ran wide. Luckily his car suffered only minimal damage in his off in SS1 and apart from a heavily smashed windscreen the fourth round winner could continue, albeit having lost three minutes to Breen and with it any hope of a second consecutive victory.

Hall now lies third in the FST standings with 100 points, 5 less than Edwards, who is second, and 16 more than Forde, who is fourth.

Of the rest, only two other FST runners were classified - namely Thomas Watson and Harry Hunt and they came in fifth and sixth respectively.

Mark Donnelly and Stefan Davis both failed to make it to the end. Donnelly, like Hall, had an off in the shakedown, and he also crashed in SS1 too, but he was unable to continue after ripping off a wheel. Davis went out two stages later - in SS3 - when he slid wide and put his wheels onto the grass, sending his car into a roll.

The FST now continues with the Ulster Rally in August, which runs from August 21-22.
