Honda's John McGuinness has broken his right scaphoid following a training accident.

The 20-time Isle of Man TT winner spends hours on his enduro and trials bikes during the off-season to prepare for the season ahead and the setback comes less than two months before McGuinness is due to compete at the North West 200 in Northern Ireland.

However, at this stage it is not thought the injury will impact on his road racing plans.

McGuinness is targeting his 21st win at the TT this year and remains the outright lap record holder on the Mountain Course, setting a new benchmark last year at 131.671mph.
