The Oxford Silver Machine did themselves proud at a rain soaked Wimborne Road last night, very nearly pulling off a shock result against the favorites in the Elite League play-offs.

Leading at one point, the Silver Machine threw everything they had at the League Champions elect to produce a classic speedway encounter. The Silver Machine and the Pirates swapped the lead in see saw fashion for the much of the meeting, but in the end their superior track knowledge gave them the edge and the Pirates had done enough by heat fourteen.

It was a solid performance all round from a very focused team which provided exciting racing and great theatre for the Sky Sports cameras who were covering the match live. Oxford still have a chance of grabbing some silverware, in the Knockout Cup, with the second leg of the semi final on Friday, October 10th, 2003.
