Oxford's mid-term signing Greg Hancock won the American National Championship in Auburn, California on Friday. Going into the meeting, Coventry's Billy Hamill led from the first leg raced earlier in the season, with fellow Bees Ryan Fisher and Billy Janniro in second and third places and Greg Hancock fourth.

But it was Hancock who dominated Friday's second leg, dropping just one point in the qualifying heats before winning the final ahead of Fisher, Janniro and former Belle Vue star Mike Faria.

Overall that meant that, taking into consideration points scored in both the championship meetings, Hancock and Fisher were level on 35 points each with Janniro third on 34 and Hamill fourth with a total of 33.

And so the destiny of the American title rested on a run off between the top two and Greg made no mistake leading Fisher from start to finish.
