The Poole Pirates are Elite League champions 2003 after comfortably defeating Coventry at Wimboure Road tonight in the second leg of the play-off final for an aggregate victory by 100-79.

After doing the hard work at Coventry in the first leg last Monday and winning by a single point at Brandon, the Pirates made no mistake in front of their home fans tonight for a twenty point win.

Coventry had talked a good fight but were not given a chance to live up to brave words. Andreas Jonsson was the only Bee to have any sort of a sting racing to thirteen points from six rides.

Poole, on the other hand, scored solidly with both former world champion Tony Rickardsson and recent signing Ales Dryml going through the card unbeaten by an opponent. Only Davey Watt did not trouble the scorers.

Way back in April at the start of the season Poole were installed as favourites for the Elite League title and after some early inconsistency they quickly found their feet and headed the table for most of the year which of course would have counted for nothing with the championship decided on the play-off system. And now the Pirates have proved they truly were the best team and deserved title holders.
