Mildenhall are the new Conference League champions after closest rivals Rye House lost at Sheffield on Monday night. Fen Tigers Co-promoter Graham Drury said: "People have to remember that Mildenhall Speedway was dead and buried two years ago."

"We have achieved success for the fans and we still have the Knockout Cup to go for this weekend. It's a tremendous end to the season for our fans." Drury has hit back at the critics who have slammed his use of more experienced riders in the Conference League.

Former England test star Ben Howe has appeared for the new champions along with former ex-Premier Leaguers Paul Lee and Wayne Broadhurst. But Drury said: "The average age of our team is 23 and we have helped develop youngsters like James Brundle and Matthew Wright."
