Carlos Villar, paralysed from the waist down following a track crash on Saturday night, has gone through an operation at Middlesbrough's James Cook University Hospital whilst a vital support fund has been set up to assist him financially.

The operation has "cleaned" up his injury with a view to securing and protecting his upper-body movement which is so precious to him. His situation is being dramatically helped by an army of speedway supporters worldwide who are donating to a support fund set up Tuesday with the intention to provide Villar with as much of a comfortable life as possible.

Money can be donated by taking it to any branch of the Halifax or Bank of Scotland by depositing it in account titled "Carlos Villar Support Fund" with the account number D/94575352-5.

Or cheques made payable to "Carlos Villar Support Fund" can be sent to the treasurers at - Carlos Villar Support Fund, c/o D & M Leighton, 7, Percy Terrace, Berwick upon Tweed, Northumberland, TD15 .

Every donation, no matter how small will make a massive difference to the future of Carlos Villar. A fund raising auction of top speedway memorabilia will take place soon, and already several World class GP stars have donated items to raise money.

It is also hoped that in the not too distant future, a speedway meeting could be held with all profits going straight to Carlos, but many doors have to be opened and hurdles cleared before this can happen.
