Berwick Bandits were thrilled to announce last night that one of the most popular riders to wear the Yellow and Black colours in recent years is to return for a third term on Tweedside. He will link up with his fellow Czech Republic stars Michal Makovsky and Adrian Rymel, and he is Josef Franc.

"Pepe" Franc joined the Bandits along with the other two Czechs in 2001, but missed out on a team place in 2002 due to team averages not allowing him to fit in. He made a triumphant return to the squad last year and also made it into the Czech Grand Prix as a wild card entry such is the esteem in which the little guy is held in his own Country.

It is in similar esteem that Waite holds Pepe, and he is absolutely convinced that Franc has the skill, talent and capability to be Berwick's top man by the end of 2004.

"None of our Czechs have yet realised their full potential," stated Waite, "but I think it is Josef who has the most within him to become a major success story of 2004. I am convinced 2004 will be his year."

"We were worried about his Continental commitments, but that's a problem that has been resolved to our satisfaction and the way is clear for him to blossom in to one fine, fine speedway star, thankfully in Berwick colours."
