The Oxford Silver Machine's Elite League finale at Sandy Lane was more of a whimper as the Ipswich Witches made the most of Oxford's machine gremlins to snatch the three league points on offer and all but end any hopes that Oxford had of making the play offs which start on September 20th.

The big news however was the attendance of local MP Andrew Smith and his wife Val, who is the local ward councillor. In an interview after the meeting they both made it clear that they were going to do all that they could to ensure that top flight speedway remained at Sandy Lane.

Nigel Wagstaff was also able to confirm that the GRA are only offering Monday, Tuesday or Thursday nights for Speedway racing and with Reading and Swindon already racing on Monday and Thursday ruling them out. The Swedish Elite League runs on Tuesday nights ruling out that night.

It all points to the fact that the only hope for top flight speedway to remain in the city is a late change of heart from the GRA. After fifty six consecutive seasons of speedway, and twenty years of that on a Friday night, the large band of Oxford Speedway supporters are all praying for a miracle.
