Coventry Buildbase Bees lost their 100 per cent Elite League record as they suffered their first defeat in nine matches at Swindon on Thursday.

The second-placed Robins triumped 54-40 in an entertaining fixture that underlined just what a difficult circuit Blunsdon is to visit - and what a good side the Robins are.

Bees provided plenty of high spots on a night of excellent racing, but they were just not consistent enough from the gate on this occasion.

Chris Harris supplied a string of spectacular passing moves throughout the meeting, including overtaking both Swindon riders from a 15-metre handicap when he was brought into Heat 12 for double points.

Rory Schlein led the Robins' Aussie superstar Leigh Adams for all but the final yards of Heat 10 before being overtaken, but Scott Nicholls did manage to lower the colours of his respective skipper twice in the last three
races.

Bees co-boss Peter Oakes said: "Everyone has seen what a powerful-looking side Swindon are, and that's actually one of the better scores we've had here in the last two or three years.

"We were as fast, if not faster, than they were, but it took us a long time to start making starts, and that cost us severely in the beginning and the middle of the meeting.

"Fourteen points is certainly recoverable when it comes to the aggregate point, and it's still eight wins and one defeat - we'll get back to business tomorrow!"
