A superb all round team performance saw the Poole Pirates cruise to their first away league win of the season, beating Ipswich by 58 points to 35.

Pirates completely dominated the match from the opening race, leaping into a six point lead after the first six races.

" This is a big result for us " said Pirates team manager Neil Middleditch " I thought that we could notch up a win here and the boys didn't let me down."

" Everyone played their part, especially Eddie Kennett who shrugged off the effects of last night's crash to pick up some more than useful points."

World champion Jason Crump ( 14 points ) was in superb form for the Pirates dropping just one point from his five races, while captain Bjarne Pedersen picked up 10 points and unbeaten by an opponent throughout the meeting.

Pirates reserve Piotr Swist enjoyed his best match since joining the club and his nine point return helped swing the match in favour of the Dorset side, but it was Eddie Kennett who proved to be the trump card in the Pirates pack.

Kennett shrugged off the effects of an arm injury sustained during last night's win against the Reading Bulldogs to win three of his races and help power the Pirates to victory.

" Eddie showed a great deal of determination to ride through the pain barrier and get on with the job in hand " said Middleditch " It would have been easy for him to have pulled out of this match, but he showed a lot of character and did an outstanding job."

Poole will look to add to their winning run and make it three wins in as many days when they travel to Oxford on Friday ( 20 April ). Pirates ran out easy winners when the two sides met at Poole just over a week ago and will be looking to pick up the aggregate bonus point on offer from this match.
