The Oxford Silver Machine's hopes of progressing to the next stages of the British League Cup were ended last night when a depleted side could only manage a draw against the Eagles of Eastbourne.

Things started well and the Silver Machine were eight points up after only three heats. However, the Eagles then got the measure of the track and narrowed the deficit to just two points. Andy Smith and Travis McGowan flew the flag for the Machine but the team were sadly lacking Sebastian Ulamek who would have undoubtedly made a huge difference to the end result.

The Eagles took the lead in heat twelve but it was all level going to the final heat thanks to a heat fourteen maximum for the home side. The Eagles had the upper hand in the final heat and were set for the win until Travis McGowan rode a fantastic final lap to grab the win and ensure that Oxford took a share of the points.

Oxford face the Peterborough Panthers in Elite League action on Monday, August 25th, 2003. Due to the Oxford United football match, the meeting will start with the parade at 12.45pm and the first race will be at 1pm prompt.
