Rene Rast says he cannot wait for his LMP1 debut in the Audi R18 e-tron quattro at round two of the World Endurance Championship in Spa.

The German manufacturer claimed victory in the WEC season opener earlier this month at Silverstone and is gearing up for the second event of the year and the final contest ahead of the prestigious Le Mans 24 Hours race.

Audi has revealed it plans to run variations of its aerodynamic package at Spa-Francorchamps on its three R18 entries as a final test before Le Mans.

For German driver Rast, it will mark his maiden race in the LMP1 category after graduating from the GT3 programme in the winter. Rast, who has two Spa 24 Hours race victories to his name, has been an Audi Sport customer racer for a number of years and is a three-time Porsche Supercup champion.

Rast has enjoyed a series of test programmes with the factory Audi squad and is set to race in the number nine Audi R18 e-tron quattro alongside Filipe Albuquerque and Marco Bonanomi as co-drivers for Spa and Le Mans.

"The track in the Ardennes suits me really well and I can hardly wait for my first race in the R18 after the many kilometers I drove it in testing," Rast said. "I've known Filipe and Marco from previous races. Audi has prepared me well for my new task."

Audi Sport Team Joest's number 7 car claimed victory in round one of the WEC at Silverstone at the hands of Marcel Fassler, Andre Lotterer and Benoit Treluyer.
