Regis Laconi will not be making a return to World Superbike competition just yet after it was decided that he isn't quite fit enough to race eight months on from his serious accident in South Africa.

There was hope the popular Frenchman would return to racing in time for the start of the new season having undergone a lengthy, but successful, recovery from serious injury during the second-half of 2009.

Laconi was placed into an induced coma following his accident during free practice at Kyalami, the 11-time race winner suffering two fractured vertebrae and being kept in hospital for almost a month.

Despite the severity of his injuries, Laconi made an emotional appearance on a bike for the first time at his home round of Magny-Cours, where he completed a handful of demonstration laps on the DFX Ducati he began the year racing with.

He also got added mileage on the bike during post-season testing at Portimao, but while DFX is now the only team on the entry list yet to confirm its rider, a spokeswoman told Crash.net that while Laconi is 'ok', he isn't ready to race yet.

Despite missing nine rounds, Laconi still finished 15th in the standings, scoring more points in ten races than he managed with PSG-1 Kawasaki for the whole of 2008.
