Peugeot's Richard Burns was transferred to a private hospital yesterday [Monday], after he fainted at the wheel on Sunday evening.

Burns lost consciousness while on the M4 motorway near Newport, luckily Ford Rallye Sport driver Markko Martin was in the passenger seat, and the Estonia steered the car to the hard shoulder.

According to reports by British newspaper, The Guardian, the Englishman will now undergo several tests to determine his state of health, an appointment has also been made with a neurologist.

Peugeot boss Corrado Provera told the broadsheet newspaper: "He has been given some kind of scan. We cannot advance any type of speculation. Life is like that. There is nothing else to say, except to hope it is something light.

"He has had a tough season and this way to end the season is awful. He was so committed. We will be fighting up to the end. We will be fighting also for him."

Burns, who was still in with a shout of winning this years title, will now miss this weekend's Wales Rally GB.

Although little is known about this 'illness', his personal website reports that 'his condition is not serious'.
