Peugeot boss, Corrado Provera has hit out at his number one driver Marcus Gronholm, telling the Finn his retirement Sunday on the Uddeholm Swedish Rally was a 'big and unnecessary disappointment'.

Gronholm, who had been battling with Petter Solberg for the lead of event, rolled his 307 WRC in SS16, losing the left-front wheel in the process and ending his challenge.

Provera, who was attending his last WRC event as team boss, warned the Finn at the end of leg 2 not to take any unnecessary risks, as while the win was important, so too was the situation with regard to the constructors' championship. The fact this 'advice' seemingly fell on deaf ears did not please Provera...

"Marcus' retirement is a big and unnecessary disappointment," he said.

"We had no mechanical problems with either of the cars throughout the rally, with only routine maintenance required. This rally has been something of a missed opportunity, but we are firmly on the right road."

Gronholm meanwhile admitted he had just made a mistake.

"It was one quite tight corner," he explained, when interviewed at the scene by ITV Sport. "I went in and we went down in the car and it touched and moved the front a little bit. We then went wide and we rolled. It was frightening but what can I do.

"We made a mistake and are out."
