Alex Bengue matched the best ever finish for the Skoda Fabia WRC 05 - and also secured his best ever WRC finish - with a spirited drive to finish sixth on Rallye de France - Tour de Corse.

The French asphalt expert set a number of top ten stage times over the course of the event in the mountains above the Corsican capital Ajaccio to give Skoda a much needed confidence boost after a disappointing performance on Rally Japan.

Leg three proved to be the highlight for Bengue, who not only eased away from the Citroen of Xavier Pons to secure his position, but did so on the back of three top five stage times on the final day which leaves confidence high going into the next round of the season in Spain next weekend.

"This was a fantastic result for me and for the team," Bengue said at the finish. "I'm really pleased with how the car performed and how we were able to fight with Xavi and Roman today. I'm very happy to have given the team its best result of the season on such a difficult rally."

Jan Kopecky brought his Fabia WRC home in twelfth place in a result that left team boss Martin Muehlmeier pleased.

"This is a really good result for Alex and the team," he said. "He drove superbly and pushed very hard to try and get an even better result. The Fabia really showed its speed here with three top four times today and so this was a very important rally for us."
