The FIA, the governing body for the World Rally Championship has confirmed the provisional calendar for 2008, with Jordan set to run its first ever WRC event.

Rally South Africa and Rally Poland could also be included for the first time in 2008, while the Cyprus Rally may get a re-call, although only one of these events will get the OK, subject to the inspection of their event in 2007.

Rally Australia and the Rally of Turkey meanwhile have both been given definite slots for 2008, after being left off the 2007 version - and as such '07 newcomers, Norway, Portugal and Ireland will all be dropped, as will Rally Mexico, which joined the WRC fold back in 2004.

With regard to next year's calendar - 2007, also shown below, those events that will count towards the Junior and the Production Car categories was confirmed too - with seven events making up the Junior series and eight making up the PCWRC. Like this season though only six events will qualify for each championship. Furthermore the Junior series has dropped the 'world' tag, as all the events are in Europe.

Rallye Monte Carlo next year will be the only event that doesn't count towards either a round of the Junior championship or the Production Car championship.

In other news related to the WRC, following the World Motor Sport Council meeting on Wednesday, the FIA noted: "A tender will be issued for a single tyre manufacturer to equip all World Rally Cars entered in the 2008 World Rally Championship."
