Having equalled Stobart VK's best result on a World Rally Championship event with a fourth place finish on the Swedish Rally last weekend, Henning Solberg went one better in Norway as he carried the team to its maiden WRC podium.

Solberg entered the final leg embroiled in a battle with brother Petter over the final podium position, with the Subaru driver holding a ten second lead going into the final four stages of the event. However, with tyre choice critical for the snowy stages, Henning soon took the advantage when the final day got underway.

The 34-year-old moved into third on the opening stage of the morning and looked set to claim his first podium of the year going into the final stage - where he stalled at the start.

However, Henning then drove like a man possessed for the rest of the stage and by the time he had reached the finish some 44km later, had not only made up the time lost, but had gone quicker than Petter to claim third place behind the works Fords of Mikko Hirvonen and Marcus Gronholm.

"I had a stall at the start which lost me lots of seconds and I was worried it was going to be very close," Henning said at the finish. "I was driving as hard as I could on that last stage, I mean really pushing as hard as I ever have! The car was off the road more than it was on it!

"I am so happy with my result and in front of my home country in Norway it just feels amazing. It was something special to battle with Petter, he is a great driver and I know he was going flat out also. We have had a good rally, really trying our best the whole way through and it has paid off to push for the podium today. I am so happy with my result."

Team boss Malcolm Wilson was also full of praise for Solberg after his performance on a fine day for the Blue Oval as a whole.

"What a fantastic result for the team, it's really amazing!" he said. "Henning was under a bit of pressure on Friday with this being his home event, but he started to relax on leg two and his times really improved; and to actually pass Petter on the final day was outstanding, a fantastic achievement."
