Miguel Campos will compete in the colours of the 'BFGoodrich Drivers Team' on the Vodafone Rally de Portugal next month, the second round of the 2008 Intercontinental Rally Challenge.

The 'BFGoodrich Drivers Team' programme will give crews from five countries - namely Portugal, Belgium, Spain, Czech Republic and Italy - a chance to contest their home round of the IRC this season and Campos was unanimously elected by a jury comprising 14 representatives of the Portuguese media.

Campos, who made the initial shortlist of three drivers drawn up by BFGoodrich and Kronos Racing, after 48 applications were received, will now get his first chance to drive the Peugeot 207 S2000 at a special test session near Faro on May 5.

He will then link up with Kronos Racing's two other Peugeot 207 Super 2000 drivers, Freddy Loix and Nicolas Vouilloz, a few days later for the start of the Vodafone Rally de Portugal, which runs from May 8-10.

"This is a big surprise but I'm absolutely thrilled," beamed Campos after the vote. "I just can't wait to get started!"

BFGoodrich competition director Fr?d?ric Henry-Biabaud meanwhile was delighted with how the selection process worked.

"Today saw the first day of voting for the 2008 BFGoodrich Drivers Team operation and I am extremely pleased with how successfully everything went," he confirmed.

"We were delighted to see the Portuguese media respond to our invitation. BFGoodrich wanted the voting to be perfectly open and above board and, thanks to the professionalism of all those involved in its organisation, the operation can already be considered a big success.

"I would like to thank all the people from BFGoodrich, Kronos and the Automobile Club du Portugal who prepared the day which was perfectly in keeping with BFGoodrich's commitment to the world of rallying."

Kronos boss Marc van Dalen is now looking forward to seeing what Campos can do: "I am delighted with today's choice, although it turned out to be extremely difficult to decide between the drivers in the vote. Along with BFGoodrich, we drew up an initial shortlist of three, any one of whom which could have risen to the challenge without any difficulty," he continued.

"All three were chosen as a function of their experience, motivation and ability to fit into the team. We are now extremely fired up at the prospect of working with Miguel Campos, winner of the Portuguese leg of the BFGoodrich Drivers Team programme, when he joins us to try the Peugeot 207 for the first time on May 5. The BFGoodrich technician will profit from the day to explain to him how to optimise his tyres, because that's one of the principal keys to victory."
