Urmo Aava will not compete on the Wales Rally GB this weekend, the final round in the 2008 World Rally Championship.

A statement on his personal website confirmed that he would miss the event due to the 'unstable and rapidly changing economic environment'. However the World Rally Team Estonia man is said to be 'positive' about 2009 and has tested a Subaru Impreza WRC and Ford Focus RS WRC in recent months as he evaluates his options for next season.

Aava, who took in ten rounds in the World Rally Championship this year and who notched up five points finishes, was upbeat about what he has achieved in '08.

"Our goal for 2008 was to compete in at least ten WRC events and do one rally in Estonia. Today we can proudly look back at 2008 and say, we have achieved that goal," he noted.

"The invaluable experience and tests in the Citroen team allowed us a successful season - winning five special stages, taking fourth place at the Acropolis Rally, and fifth place at Rally New Zealand. That is by far more than I ever imagined."

Fellow World Rally Team Estonia runner and P-WRC man Martin Rauam meanwhile will also miss the Rally GB for economic reasons.

"My goal for the season was to attain a place at the top ten in PWRC. Since today we are at the sixth position we can be satisfied with the result," he added.

"We finished the rallies in the first five and retired only once, though the team error at Rally Acropolis ruined the chance to compete for the place on podium. Still, I feel that we have been quite lucky this year in the heavy competition of the Production WRC series."

Rauam will be replaced on the Wales Rally GB by Egon Kaur, who finished fourth in the 2008 Estonian Rally Championship: "It is a great opportunity to participate in the World Rally Championship season in the last rally as the representative of the World Rally Team Estonia," he continued. "I have competed on the roads of Wales before, so the situation is familiar for me. I'll do my best to drive as fast and well as I can there."
