Citroen has confirmed that Kimi Raikkonen will take part in ten of the 13 events on the 2011 World Rally Championship calendar.

The former F1 champion has been the centre of much speculation during the off-season having been linked to a possible return to single-seaters, before confirmation came that he would remain in the WRC season for a second season.

Having lodged an entry for the season opener in Sweden under the ICE 1 Racing banner, Citroen has now confirmed that Raikkonen's programme will take in an additional nine events at the wheel of a DS3 WRC.

The Finn will be one of three privateers to use the DS3 WRC during 2011, with Petter Solberg taking part in all 13 events with his own team and Dutchman Peter van Merksteijn set to start his campaign in Portugal.

Van Merksteijn had hoped to compete in Sweden but put back his own programme to enable Solberg to take delivery of his car first.

"While awaiting the arrival of new manufacturers in the WRC, I think it's Citroen's duty to help improve the appeal of the championship," Citroen Racing director Olivier Quesnel said. "That's why we're happy with the agreements reached with Petter Solberg, Kimi Raikkonen and Peter van Merksteijn.

"Citroen Racing's ultimate aim is not to rent out cars, but we're proud to be able to count these drivers as part of our family."
