Citroen Racing boss Olivier Quesnel has praised Peter van Merksteijn after the Dutchman elected to delay his WRC programme to allow Petter Solberg to compete in all 13 events on the calendar.

Solberg finally put together a programme to return to the series with his own team this season but his participation in the season opener was in doubt due to the fact that Citroen will only have a limited number of new DS3 WRCs ready for the first round of the year.

However, van Merksteijn elected to forego his entry into Rally Sweden to allow Solberg the use of the car first and will now join the WRC in March during Rally Portugal.

"Petter has finally signed late in the day but he will indeed run in all 13 rallies," he told "For Peter van Merksteijn Jr I would like to thank him because it's thanks to him that Petter races in Sweden. He has given him his car for that rally."

Van Merksteijn Motorsport team manager Gerard Grove said the team would now go to Argentina rather than Sweden as part of its programme for the year ahead.

"We had an agreement for Sweden but there were not enough cars available for that event," he said. "Following a very good discussion with Citroen Racing we have decided to not take part to give Petter the possibility of driving there. We will now go to Argentina instead of Sweden."

Up to 15 DS3 WRCs are to built during the remainder of 2011.
