M-Sport team principal Malcolm Wilson OBE has heaped praise on his driver Elfyn Evans and says the Welshman's performance at Tour de Corse deserved nothing less than his career-best WRC finish.

Evans charged to the front over the opening stages at Corsica despite it being his first experience at the event. After leading overnight the M-Sport driver maintained his momentum on day two but eventually slipped behind Volkswagen Motorsport's Jari-Matti Latvala but was able to hold off a late charge from Andreas Mikkelsen to take the runner-up spot and his second rostrum of the year.

Wilson says he's been impressed by his young driver this season and was delighted to see him fightback so strongly after the disappointment in Australia.

"We have witnessed an absolutely stunning drive from Elfyn Evans this weekend," Wilson said. "Not only has he secured his best result to date, but also his second podium of the year as well as the team's best result of the season.

"To say that he and the team deserve this result is a real understatement. After Australia everyone really pulled together and worked extremely hard. It really is fantastic to see all that hard work yielding a result as impressive as this one - which puts us right back in the fight for second place in the manufacturers' championship."

M-Sport Ford has closed the gap to 14 points between themselves and Citroen, who currently hold second place in the manufacturers' championship with Hyundai in third just a point behind.
