Channel 5 has secured a deal to broadcast highlight packages of every round of the 2016 FIA World Rally Championship, commencing this month for the season-opening Rallye Monte Carlo.

The first highlight show is set to be broadcast on Monday 25th January at 7pm, the day after Rallye Monte Carlo ends, and a similar slot will be given to the remaining 13 rounds with a year round up after the season finale Rally Australia in November.

WRC promoter managing director Oliver Ciesla says Channel 5's highlight show with be supplemented by a pre-event magazine programme for each round of the 2016 WRC championship, broadcast on Channel 5's sister channel Spike on Saturdays at 1pm beginning on the January 16th, while live coverage will also be given to the Power Stages.

"We're delighted to welcome Channel 5 to the WRC as our new broadcast partner" Ciesla said. "Our agreement will guarantee the most comprehensive free-to-air coverage of the WRC in Britain for many years. A pre-event magazine programme and an hour-long post-event show from all 14 rounds will be supplemented by daily highlights and live coverage of the all-important Power Stage at Britain's penultimate round. It means fans will enjoy the best excitement and drama that WRC offers."

Channel 5's director of programmes Ben Frow says he's thrilled to secure WRC highlights and is confident the championship will receive maximum expose on terrestrial television.

"We are excited to have such a fantastic sports brand to build on our growing portfolio of sports content," Frow said. "The World Rally Championship attracts a hugely loyal audience and we look forward to showing action from rallies around the world."
