Yesterday at Imola, Regis Laconi gave the NCR Ducati team a day to remember as he rode to a double podium finish in the team's home round - with third in race one, followed by a second in race two - raising the Frenchman to third in the championship standings in the process.

"Today has been an exceptional day," smiled the popular Regis, who was swamped by fans at the end of the race. "The bike was perfect and all the team, managed by Marco Mozzone, have done an excellent job.

"The top speed was very close to the speed of the full factory bikes and I was able to keep my rivals under control. Climbing twice onto the rostrum here in Imola, very close to the team's workshop, it has been fantastic and all our fans and supporters encouraged us. Now I'm waiting for Magny Cours, in my home country, where I'm confident of another good performance.

"Now the situation for the Championship is positive, third - 17 points clear of Toseland and 27 points from Lavilla; if everything goes 'normally' I think we'll be able to end the championship in third position, and that for a private team means a fantastic result," concluded Laconi, tipped to join the factory Fila Ducati team next season.

Meanwhile, team-mate David Garcia was praised as equally heroic by his team - the Spaniard rode through the pain of an arm injury to earn ten points for the championship.

"I'm actually destroyed," said Garcia after race two. "At the end of both races I wasn't able to control the bike, but I kept fighting because I want absolutely to finish the race. For me this result is like a victory!

"I want to thank the Clinica Mobile staff for the assistance they gave me during this weekend, and now I'll have three weeks of hard training to be ready for Magny Cours."
