Foggy Petronas chief engineer Steve Thompson has set his focus on further tyre development during the team's three-day test in Australia, which starts tomorrow (Tuesday).

The team arrived in Melbourne on Saturday before travelling to Phillip Island on Sunday, to finalise preparations with riders Chris Walker and Troy Corser.

The test will provide the first chance to try out a new front tyre construction that Pirelli have developed since the team's first outing on their products in Valencia, last November.

"The focus will be on front tyre performance as our advantage last year was fast corner entry and we don't want to compromise our handling set-up," explained Thompson. "But we will also be using some new oil coolers and radiators from MB Motorsport, as well as new gas-filled front forks from Ohlins, and vented Brembo front discs for more consistent braking."

Corser, who has been in Australia since before Christmas, was set to join the team later today (Monday) while Walker has been honing his golfing skills with former HM Plant team-mate James Toseland, having arrived on Friday.

"Three of us have been playing crazy golf at Grumpy Jacks every day and we have all won once so there is going to have to be a showdown later in the week," smiled Chris. "We've played on the proper course twice as well, and my putting hasn't been too bad there, it's just getting to the green that has been shocking!"
