Shane Byrne believes there is more to come from himself and Sterilgarda Ducati as he fired a significant warning shot to his rivals by topping the timesheets in Portugal for the second day in succession.

Having seemingly mastered the Portimao circuit, Byrne was once again the rider to beat as track conditions began to resemble those that greeted the riders during the final round of the 2008 World Superbike season nearly three months ago.

Sitting out the damp morning session, Byrne grabbed the quickest time of the day in the afternoon with a lap that also undercut Troy Bayliss' short lived record around the circuit. Furthermore, the lap was done on Pirelli race tyres and not qualifying rubber.

Nonetheless, despite his success so far, Byrne is confident that there is more speed to find from the semi-private 1098R.

"I have an excellent feeling with the bike at the moment, but there is still a good amount to improve upon. Today I have concentrated on different solutions for the bike and through this I was able to set the fastest time of the session.

"We still have a day of testing to go where we will continue to try and prepare for the first round of the season."
