Gianluca Nannelli was the fastest Triumph rider during the official Portimao WSS test, in which he put his BE1 machine ninth overall - within 0.8sec of fastest man Joan Lascorz - with the highlight of his test a second place ranking on the final day.

"I leave Portugal with a lot of satisfaction," smiled the Italian. "I've found an excellent feeling with the bike immediately, and I was able to be constantly quick. In the last session I tried to open the gas despite the high wind and I recorded the second quickest time. That's really good for our spirit!".

Veteran team-mate Garry McCoy was two places and 0.2sec behind Nannelli on the overall timesheets.

"I tried to capitalise on the dry track time, testing several setting solutions and finding a good basic bike set-up," said the former 500cc and WSBK race winner. "I also had the chance to start working on the electronics and I hope to complete it during the next test at Phillip Island. I appreciatd the work of the team on the machine which has moved another step forward with respect to the 2008 version".

"We worked hard during the last three days but we still have a lot to do before the championship starts," warned team manager Giuliano Rovelli. "In order to test and set the last details we will fly to Australia one week before the first round for two days of testing on Phillip Island track. We want to do all the necessary to get everything ready for the opening round."
