Jonathan Rea is confident there is more to come from both himself and the Ten Kate Honda team after putting in the second quickest time during provisional qualification in Qatar.

Although he couldn't match the pace of pole sitter Ben Spies, Rea was in top three contention throughout the first day of action at Losail, with his best lap of 1min 59.177secs proving six tenths better than his closest competitor in third.

Leaving Rea in a good position to target a second consecutive front row starting position when final qualification and Superpole follow tomorrow, the Northern Irishman was certainly feeling buoyed by his speed straight out of the box.

"That was a good start to the weekend," he said. "I've been really looking forward to coming here and feel that our package works better here. The CBR1000RR felt really good today and we managed good consistency of lap times when we did a little run.

"The crew has worked really hard and we've got some new parts working really well. It'll be fun to see how the pace hots up tomorrow, because I think there's some more to come!"
