Jakub Smrz is hoping to turn his superb one-lap form into an improved race result in Qatar after claiming his second consecutive front row starting position at Losail.

The Czech rider confirmed his status as a Superpole specialist by winning second on the grid, just one tenth behind Ben Spies' record-breaking effort.

Another remarkable performance for the privateer Guandalini Ducati rider, Smrz admits the team has come a long way over the course of the weekend after admitting he had been struggling with the set-up of the 1098RS.

Nonetheless, Smrz is now turning his attentions to the races, where he is hoping to prove more competitive than on previous occasions when he has qualified at the pinnacle of the grid.

"We had some set-up problems and I wasn't comfortable about the front of the bike but the team did a great job and the bike improved a lot. We did some long distance running which wasn't too bad, but now it depends on what tyres we will choose for tomorrow.

"It is important to get a good start and over the first laps stay in front - then anything is possible. Second race and second time on the front row, it is great but this is just the start of the season."
