Makoto Tamada has been forced to withdraw from the second round of the World Superbike Championship after sustaining injuries in a crash during warm-up.

The Japanese rider suffered a heavy fall during the short session, prompting a red flag and a trip to the Losail circuit's medical centre.

Although there has been no formal confirmation from the Kawasaki team, it is thought Tamada has hurt his ribs and broken his toe.

As a result, Tamada, who would have started 22nd on the grid, won't take part in either race.
