Leon Haslam is on the road to recovery after undergoing an operation to have a pin inserted into his fractured leg.

The Pata Honda rider fractured the tibia and fibula in an accident during first free practice at Assen, the unfortunate Haslam getting snagged by his bike as he slid into the gravel trap.

Returning to the United Kingdom to go under the knife at Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham, Haslam will miss the next World Superbike round at Monza, but is targeting a return for his home round at Donington Park on May 24-26.

In the meantime, Maxime Berger is reportedly set to deputise for Haslam at the upcoming Monza round. The Frenchman has two years of experience racing in World Superbikes and competed for Ten Kate Racing in the Superstock 1000 Cup for three years prior to that.
