Marco Melandri says he is 'very happy' to be racing at Laguna Seca once more as he bids to use his prior experience of the circuit to better use than last time out at Istanbul Park.

One of only a handful riders to have raced in Turkey before, Melandri went into the 11th round as a firm favourite for victory, but set-up problems on race day would instead see him lose ground in the fight for the title.

Slipping to fourth in the standings, Melandri is 33 points behind Tom Sykes overall with three rounds remaining, but stands to benefit again at Laguna Seca as a circuit he knows very well from his MotoGP days.

A venue he has competed at on six occasions during his MotoGP tenure, Melandri is confident the BMW will go well around the fairly tight circuit as he prepares himself for a charge to the title.

"I have good memories of Laguna Seca. I rode there when I was in MotoGP and I was twice on the podium. Laguna is one of the best tracks on the calendar. I'm very happy that the World Superbike organisers decided to come back to this circuit.

"Our bike should work well on this track. We only need to check the grip level the asphalt offers once we are there and work hard to achieve the best possible result. I feel really good and am preparing with training for the next rounds. This final part of the season will be demanding but I want to give my best."
