Sylvain Barrier could make a sooner-than-expected return to World Superbike competition as he continues his recovery from a road car accident.

Following the accident on 15th March, the Frenchman underwent maxillofacial surgery in Lyon and his family have since confirmed he is making a quick recovery.

As such, double Superstock 1000 champion Barrier - who missed the opening WSBK round due to a pelvis injury - could be back in the BMW saddle as soon as the third event at Assen.

In the meantime, BMW Italia, who ran Glenn Allerton in Barrier's place in Australia, is yet to announce who will ride for it during the second WSBK round at Motorland Aragon next month.
