Team Hero EBR came closer than ever to securing its first points in the World Superbike Championship after Aaron Yates secured a 16th place finish in race one.

The American team has endured a difficult first season of WSBK racing, but ahead of its much anticipated home event at Laguna Seca, Yates came closer-than-ever to a points' finish, crossing the line in 18th but classified 16th as a result of the two Bimotas ahead being excluded.

Even so, despite improvements to the engine ahead of this event, reliability woes continue to stymie the Indian-financed outfit, with Geoff May skipping race two altogether in an effort to preserve his unit prior to Laguna Seca, where the team is confident of scoring points.

"It's no secret that we are onto engine ten with five races to go. It is impossible to do anything here from the pit lane so we chose to save our engine.

"We accomplished what we needed to this weekend in terms of testing the new parts and the results were pleasing so we move on to Laguna next week where I won't need to start pit lane."
