Red Devils Aprilia riders Jordi Torres and Leon Haslam filled the top two places during FP2 at Phillip Island, but it was Alex Lowes who ended the day with the fastest lap overall on the Voltcom Crescent Suzuki at Phillip Island.

Series rookie Torres edged team-mate Haslam to lead the way in the second free practice session with a lap in 1m 31.242s, with the British star - who came off at Turn 10 after losing the front - 0.242s behind.

Kawasaki's Tom Sykes was third quickest in 1m 31.670s followed by Michael van der Mark on the Pata Honda, who is also stepping up to World Superbike level for the first time this season.

Van der Mark's time of 1m 31.693s was only 0.451s behind Torres, with Lowes next in 1m 31.734s.

However, Suzuki rider Lowes was fastest overall on the combined times from the opening two practice sessions after a lap in 1m 30.855s in the early stages of FP1 on the GSX-R1000.

Only three of the top 12 riders managed to better their times from FP1 as temperatures in the afternoon soared.

New Kawasaki signing Jonathan Rea was sixth fastest in FP2 ahead of Ducati's Chaz Davies, while reigning champion Sylvain Guintoli improved his time on the Pata Honda to 1m 32.329s to complete the top eight, 1.087s down on Torres' Aprilia.

Guintoli had a bit of a moment on the CBR1000RR Fireblade SP and was lucky to save what would have been a huge high-side.

Randy de Puniet (Voltcom Crescent Suzuki) and David Salom on the Pedercini Kawasaki were the first ten, while another of the newcomers - Nico Terol - was 11th on the Althea Ducati ahead of MV Agusta's Leon Camier.

Niccolo Canepa (Team Hero EBR), who missed FP1 due to a technical problem, completed a handful of laps before coming off at Turn 10, ending FP2 in 20th place.

Troy Bayliss was 17th fastest as he continues to ease himself back into WSBK action for the first time since 2008, lapping in 1m 33.490s after setting four personal best laps in a row in the final seven minutes of the session.
