Leon Haslam says bugs with his Aprilia World Superbike machine plagued his race day at Magny-Cours and has lost touch with Tom Sykes and Chaz Davies in the fight for the runner-up spot.

The Aprilia Racing Team - Red Devils rider mastered the torrential rain conditions during Superpole to claim P1 but suffered a disaster in the races, languishing 16th in race one before a mild recovery with fifth in race two.

"Something just didn't go right today," a despondent Haslam said. "Between race one and race two the guys changed everything but we had the same problems. I'm disappointed because after practice and taking pole position I was sure that I could do well.

"In the first phases of the race I was even able to fight but lap after lap things got harder and harder. Fifth place is definitely not the result we deserved today."

The results dropped Haslam 86 points off second-place man Davies and regardless of results at the season finale at Losail in two weeks time the 2010 World Superbike runner-up will end the season fourth in the championship standings.
