World Superbike rookie Markus Reiterberger has been forced out of the American round at Laguna Seca next month with a fractured vertebrae.

The Althea BMW rider had been enjoying a solid weekend at Misano finishing second quickest on Friday practice before taking sixth place in race one, but his weekend ended painfully by a race two crash on the opening lap.

Despite walking away from the nasty high-side off Reiterberger was taken to the local hospital at Misano where he was diagnosed with a compression fracture of the D12 vertebrae.

As a result, the German will miss Laguna Seca in July but is likely to have enough recovery time for the round after at his home circuit Lausitzring.

With the summer break not ending until the 16-18 September in Germany, Reiterberger effectively has three months to recover after the Monza round was pulled from the World Superbike calendar.
