Tom Sykes has taken a clean sweep for the free practice sessions at the Lausitzring having traded top times with Chaz Davies in the short FP3 session.

The Kawasaki rider, who turns 32 today, has maintained his momentum after bettering the charge from Racing Ducati’s Davies while both demonstrated consistently fast lap times over longer runs.

Behind the top two Marco Melandri nipped ahead of Jonathan Rea for third on the timesheet with his final flying lap of an FP3 which was briefly suspended by a short red flag stoppage.

Alex Lowes claimed fifth on the Pata Yamaha having recovered from his FP2 engine failure ahead of both Milwaukee Aprilia riders with Lorenzo Savadori sixth and Eugene Laverty seventh.

Leon Camier placed his MV Agusta in eighth as Xavi Fores (Barni Ducati) and Markus Reiterberger (Van Zon Remeha BMW) completed the top ten.

Red Bull Honda’s Stefan Bradl, who ended FP3 17th, has been given the green light to qualify and race this weekend after passing a medical check having sustained a badly bruised left elbow in his FP2 fall on an oil spill caused by Lowes’s engine blowout.

Randy Krummenacher suffered an off on his outlap on the Puccetti Kawasaki and was taken to the medical centre as a precaution.
